POSITION VACANT – GARDENER

Job Description

• Ensure that the Chancery and Residence grounds of the High Commission are in a clean and safe condition at all times (sweep and collect rubbish for proper storage)
• Adopt proper safe working practices to provide a safe environment for staff, properties and visitors.
• Report any unsafe or suspicious practices or areas to High Commission staff for investigation and rectification where necessary.
• Be flexible in work practices and respond to reasonable directives on emerging priorities.
• Be available to work outside normal working hours as required, e.g. ANZAC Day.
• Carryout proper gardening practices including watering, stirring, pricking, feeding and trimming.
• Ensure that treated water is not allowed to go waste whilst leaving the water hoses on the lawns, and reduce water bills. Monitor water hoses from time to time and report any defects.
• Take proper care in the handling of working tools or machines and report any fault immediately to the Facilities Manager.
• Advise Facilities Manager or Facilities Manager Assistant on acquisition of any new or replacement of damaged tools or equipment.
• Assist waste management provider to collect High Commission waste, when notified.
• Assist in cleaning official vehicles, as requested by HOM’s driver or Facilities Manager or his assistant.

The position is available for a 24 month period, which may be subject to extension based on performance and operational requirements. Hours of work, salary and other conditions will be outlined during interview.
